Spring Showcase DGGS / DGSB
12th May 2022Dover Grammar School for Girls played host to a wonderful evening of music making, bringing students from both DGGS and DGSB together to celebrate New Beginnings with a Spring Showcase Concert.
The evening’s entertainment was provided by a wide range of year groups from Y7 through to Y13, showing the audience a diverse range of musical ensembles and soloists, celebrating the wonderful music making talents that both schools have to offer.
The concert was the first opportunity for many students to perform in this type of setting since before the pandemic, and it is tribute to their dedication on their respective instruments that we were able to enjoy musical progress and abilities for this special event.
The collaboration between both schools worked well with, Teacher of Music Mr Schlamm from DGGS and Subject Leader for Music, Mrs Simes from DGSB putting together the concert with, what appeared to be seamless organisation!
The vast audience of friends, families and staff were smiling throughout as they were treated to music from Vivaldi and Faure to Muse, Adele and Oasis!
A special mention must go to our fantastic compères for the evening, Josh and Sabrina from the sixth form at their respective schools. The evening was a little emotional as it was the final opportunity for the Y13 students to perform and showcase their musical talents before leaving for pastures new, we of course wish them all the best as they depart on their journeys.
The students from the younger year groups were excited and really enjoyed the showcase ensuring that music will continue to thrive and grow in Dover. We will certainly look forward to seeing their progress over the years to come.
Our thanks must go to the peripatetic music teachers and directors of musical ensembles who worked expertly with the students. Thanks also to the prefect team who ably supported the event, Mr Drysdale for his technological expertise on sound and all who helped with the organisation of the concert.
The refreshments and raffle raised almost £300 which will support the music departments at both schools.
We look forward to further musical events in the not too distant future and as always welcoming parents/carers and friends back into school!
