The John Downton Awards for Young Artists is an annual exhibition run by Kent County Council.  The exhibition encourages and celebrates the creativity of Kent's young artists. It is open to students aged 11 to 18 from schools and colleges across Kent and showcases the best work from the most talented students in Kent.

The annual exhibition is hosted on behalf of the John Downton Trust and commemorates the life and work of John Downton, the celebrated Kent artist, poet and philosopher.

The works on display are all the shortlisted entries, winners, runners-up and highly commended.

Last year, Dover Grammar school for Girls gained success with Laurel Fishlock winning the mixed media category and this year we are pleased to announce that our success continues with Hannah Edwards winning the drawing category.  Hannah’s amazing piece entitled ‘The thinker’ is now on display in Maidstone until January 2020.  Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to vote in the ‘People’s Choice Awards’  and the results will be announced at the beginning of January 2020.

Selected works will then tour to the Turner Contemporary in Margate for an exhibition running between Saturday 18th January 2020 to Sunday 8th March 2020.
