The renowned Good Schools’ Guide has just awarded Dover Grammar School for Girls FIVE of its coveted awards for 2011. The Classics, Design Technology and Art departments were all celebrating this unique achievement. Although the school has won awards every single year since 2006 when the trophies were first awarded, this is the greatest number awarded and places the Frith Road school as one of the top schools countrywide for receiving these awards. Art and Design Technology departments received two awards each for achievement at all levels and the Classics department had its Classical Civilisation AS course recognised as one of the best in the country. This course is offered as part of the Extended Schools programme which welcomes students from other schools and learners from all sections of the community. Headteacher Matthew Bartlett commented ‘I am delighted by a further series of awards for the school which once again recognise that we are aiming to achieve not just outstanding results locally but at the national level. Our students deserve nothing less. I am particularly pleased that two of the courses that have received recognition are run as part of our community programmes. These are key to what we do as a school at the heart of the Dover community.’
