DESIGN TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT YEAR 9 INSPIRATION FOR ENGINEERING EVENT

KINGS SCHOOL SPORTS GROUND, CANTERBURY
MONDAY 3TH JULY 2017

Two teams of year 9 pupils from DGGS took part in an inter-schools competition to build and race a scale high speed racing car. The competition took place at Kings School Sports Ground in Canterbury during the afternoon of Monday 3rd July 2017.
The purpose of the competition was to inspire and motivate the Product Design students. This was a very competitive team event with a large number of other schools. The Year 9 student teams worked hard developing their designs and completing their racing car over a few weeks prior to the event at school during lunchtimes.

Both teams raced very successful racers, and advanced through the competition to compete in the semi-final heats.
Team 7 progressed through into the Final race heat of the competition despite needing to be repaired by the girls after getting damaged. Team 7 competed in the final against 4 Kings School cars and despite its repairs gave a good race. Team 7 worked well to make effective repairs with duck-tape and cable ties to make sure they could continue to race.
Team 7:- Ruth Bolton, Isabel Cory and Abbie Hopper

The winning car from Kings School was clocked at 87mph on its final run!
Team 36, though giving slower times gained the ‘ Innovative Design Award’. A great achievement for Design Technology at DGGS.
